Meet the Founder & Author
J. Birrueta is a California native, writer, poet, and founder of Dahlia House Publishing. Her work transforms life’s trials into language that endures, shaped by a profound understanding of resilience and self-reliance. Raised largely on her own, she has learned through experience that inner strength and resilience are forged through hardship and solitude.
By the age of eighteen, she was supporting herself after being left without care or guidance. Years of navigating life independently fueled her determination, eventually leading her to community college, where she began her academic journey. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California and a Juris Doctorate, all while working full-time. This path of perseverance shapes the reflective, honest voice that defines her writing.
Through memoirs in verse, she explores themes of absence, resilience, and the reclamation of one’s voice—capturing memory, emotion, and the quiet courage of the human spirit. Her poetry transforms pain and perseverance into art, illuminating both vulnerability and strength.
